



The basic framework for managing incidents at Dropbox, which we call SEVs (as in SEVerity), is similar to the ones employed by many other SaaS companies. (Their usefulness will depend on your tech stack, org size, and other factors.) Instead, we hope this serves as a case study for how you can take a systematic view of your organization’s own incident response and evolve it to meet your users’ needs. You probably won’t find all of these in a textbook description of an incident command structure, and you shouldn’t view these improvements as a one-size-fits-all approach for every company. This post goes deeper into some of the lessons Dropbox has learned in incident management. The tweaks we’ve made over time include technological, organizational, and procedural improvements. The key components of our incident management process have been in place for several years, but we’ve also found constant opportunities to evolve in this area. Every minute counts for our users during a potential site outage or product issue. Though we also employ proactive techniques such as Chaos engineering, how we respond to incidents has a significant bearing on our users’ experience. This will force Dropbox to update the offline version.At Dropbox, we view incident management as a central element of our reliability efforts. Once set up as above, Dropbox takes care of keeping this folder in sync. If you have any sync issues simply open the Dropbox app and “refresh” the list. This can be achieved with the help of a file manager app such as EX File Explorer. The filepath will look something like this /sdcard/Android/data//files/name-of-your-folderĥ) Back in Orpheus create a new (local) music folder in Orpheus with the cache folder filepath from (4) above Historical (clever but slightly hacky) way to use Dropbox’s own offline modeĭiscovered by Mario Neundlinger, a user and fan of Orpheus (thanks Mario, you’re a rockstar!)ġ) Open the Dropbox app on your device and navigate to your Dropbox folder where your sheet music is storedĢ) Enable “Available Offline” for this folder (internet access is required at this point)ģ) Now all charts within this Dropbox folder are stored in a cache folder somewhere secret on your deviceĤ) Find the filepath to the cache folder on your device. But for new users, I recommend using the in-built offline mode which makes life much easier.

This method still works and it’s perfectly safe to continue using it if you wish to do so. There’s a proper offline mode built into Orpheus – more info here. Between October 2017 and July 2019 we relied on a somewhat hacky work-around for using Dropbox charts offline.
